Members of the Vashon Teen Council roused themselves early on Martin Luther King Jr day to head to Olympia for Teen Lobby Day. Now in its 22nd year the event's purpose is to promote youth voice and provide youth activists with a platform from which to support many important bills addressing reproductive rights and reproductive justice. Many aspects of the event are chosen, planned, and facilitated by Teen Council members with the support of Planned Parenthood staff.
The Vashon teens met with Senator Nguyen and Representatives Alverado and Fitzgibbon to address penalties for non-consensual condom removal, advocate for protections for Washington state abortion providers and to support legislation that would increase oversight of hospital mergers that may adversely impact access to and affordability of care.Â
