C.I.R.C.L.E Program in schools 2024-2025
Circles are a place for youth to connect, be supported, have fun, and grow and develop their authentic identity. In short, circles are a place of belonging.
In Circle, we cultivate the capacity for authentic expression through the practice of listening and sharing from the heart. Participants leave feeling inspired, seen, empowered and more self-confident. Our amazing circle facilitators bring their unique personalities and gifts to the circle and provide mentorship as a trusted adult. The Circles in Schools program supports youth as they navigate the often challenging and tumultuous waters of adolescence!

What We Do
C.I.R.C.L.E: Create Inclusive Relationships for Connection, Listening and Empowerment-- formerly known as Sisterhood-- the program was formed when a group of 35 women on Vashon got together to talk about how to support the girls on our island. Our goal is for our island to be a place where girls feel supported, empowered, and honored as they make their way out in the world. Our organization offers programs that include C.I.R.C.L.E, Mentorship, and Empowerment-Activism.
Circles Are...
“A peaceful place where we listen and share from our hearts.”
— Circle Participant
“One of the only places where people really listen to me and care about what I share. They are also a place where everything from the outside goes away and it’s just a calm, relaxing environment. For many of us, it’s the only place where we’re relaxed. You are listened to, cared about, don’t have to shame, or feel pressured.”
— Circle Participant
“Are a way we all come together. We laugh, cry, get things off our chests, and most importantly hold each other through good and bad.”
— Circle Participant
“Encouraging, listening, loving, thoughtful.”
— Circle Participant
Vashon Island
While Vashon island is an amazing place to live for many, our island data consistently identifies that our youth experience an alarming number of risk factors, along with higher than average mental health and substance use trends. Living on an island in a rural setting results in many of our youth feeling isolated and alone, with limited resources and supports for families. C.I.R.C.L.E seeks to intentionally identify and include girls who represent ALL socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds, with additional focus on inclusion of girls that may be underrepresented and/or experiencing higher levels of social isolation on Vashon Island.
We provide opportunities for:
-
Healthy engagement and connection within and between school, peers, and community
-
Active engagement and connection with positive mentors who provide encouragement and support for the development of skills and interests
-
Developing higher self-esteem and self-confidence
-
Discussion, exploration, and development of essential emotional self-regulation, problem-solving, and coping skills
-
Increasing awareness and skills to manage those issues in society today, specific to girls/females, that impact healthy social and emotional development
-
Developing skills in self-advocacy and self-empowerment
