About the Event
One definition we found for “community” - a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.
One definition we found for “advocate” - a person who supports or speaks in favor of somebody or of a public plan or action.
As an organization, we at The DOVE Project firmly believe that safety belongs to all of us. When we feel safe, we can grow, evolve and thrive. Moreover, when we are sitting in a place of safety within our own being, we have the capacity to extend that sense of belonging and wellbeing to others in our community. In this training, we will explore different topics and ideas around being in this island community and doing our best to keep each other safe from harmful behaviors. We will learn tools and techniques to become better listeners and helpful bystanders; we will engage in rich discussion around what it means to be empathetic, and how to practice deep listening skills with our friends, family and fellow islanders. Join us! We welcome your thoughtful contribution to this very important community event.
About the Facilitators: Nyn Grey & Lillian Adams are the advocacy team at The DOVE Project. Both have been in gender based violence work for many years, and they have a deep passion for harm reduction education and promoting a healthy community.
